Blood Pets

What if we could harness the power of living organisms such as tiny microbes, animals, and plants for medical purposes? This project aims to confront our relationship with current pharmaceutical practice by proposing a series of living biotherapies. The first part of biotherapeutic series takes the form of a wearable device that uses leech saliva (hirudin) to purify the blood, improve circulation and rejuvenate body organs. The wearable device allows the leech's salivary glands to secrete different kinds of hirudin by altering the environment around the leech's skin. With the help of the wearable device, the leech crawls around different parts of the body and becomes a medicinal pet for humans.
